The Big Help Out

Date: 8th May 2023 Author: 1st Bramhall

1st Bramhall Squirrel Scouts were very proud to take part in The Big Help Out, as part of the King’s Coronation celebrations on Monday 8th May. To help our local community, The Squirrels and their family members were invited to take part in litter picking and planting activities at The Bramley Centre. We are very grateful to Stockport Council for providing litter picking equipment and to Morrisons, Cheadle Heath, for donating compost and giving us a discount on our plants.

Despite the poor weather, we had a good turnout and achieved a huge amount in just a short time. 8 large bags of litter were collected from around Lumb Lane Park and the area surrounding The Bramley Centre.

Stockport’s Deputy Mayor, Linda Holt, joined in with her own litter picking equipment! The Squirrels enjoyed planting their own sunflower seeds to take home – we will have to wait a while before we know who has grown the tallest one. The entrance to The Bramley Centre has been significantly improved with the addition of summer bedding plants, fuchsias and strawberries. The Squirrels will continue to look after the plants and hopefully enjoy eating the Strawberries as part of their “Let it grow” badge.

1st Bramhall Squirrels (Age 4-6) meet at the Bramley Centre each Monday 4.45-5.45pm. For more information or to join our waiting list then please visit https://www.1stbramhallscouts.org.uk/join
