Ukrainian initiative

A message from our Group Scout Leader, Andrew Corrie:

You will be aware that the government this week announced some details of the scheme to offer help to Ukrainian refugees.  A part of this scheme is asking for charities and faith groups to help coordinate the effort.  At 1st Bramhall we are exploring whether we may be able to help with this.

The details are still a little sketchy but it appears that our main role would be to coordinate the linking of willing UK families with named Ukrainians, to allow the visa processing to take place.  Furthermore, we would then be able to act as a community hub to provide support to both refugees and hosts once they had arrived.

We can therefore see a potential role for both families who have spare rooms and for those who currently don’t but would be able to help out in other ways. At this stage we just want to see how much interest there would be from the Bramhall community for this.

Please could you let us know if you would be able to support us if we went ahead with this project, in particular if you would be able to consider hosting refugees (and how many) for at least six months.  Although we don’t have to be exact at this stage it would be really useful to have a fairly accurate prediction so please consider this carefully.

We know that many of our scouting families have young children and won’t have spare rooms but please feel free to pass this message onto other members of the Bramhall community and particularly friends or relatives who may have been involved with 1st Bramhall in the past.

Any expressions of interest can be emailed directly to Pine Pack’s Akela Richard Edmondson (richard.edmondson@ladybrookvalleyscouts.org.uk).  Richard will be coordinating our response.

Many thanks for considering this.

Kind Regards

Andrew “Skip” Corrie
